YSL (Yves St Laurent) Men?s wear fashion
The consultant PR for YSL America, Pamela Ripps originally commissioned
the artist to create a fashion show in Andy Warhol?s Factory. Warhol
was asking too much for the use of his space, so at the last minute an
alternative venue had to be found. The artist was living in Soho at the
time and found a space on 88 Prince Street. The artist set up a boxing
ring and had the buyers served champagne from a hot dog stand outside
the factory, then they were chauffeured from Union Square location to
Prince St, which at that time was considered a ?no go area?
and to everybody?s dismay, including two network News shows. They
were treated to an evening of the Dance Theatre Harlem making the male
models ?strut their stuff?.
The show was so successful that the next show that the artist was to
create was in the Rockefeller Centre?s promenade Caf?. A
light sculpture was created as a centrepiece to compliment the ?Fountain
with Gold Figure?. A series of ramps encircled the light sculpture
and models moved between the two sculptures.
